Our good friend and koili patron, Chuka, was kind enough to take to the koili korner this week. Aside from finding some of our questions slightly funny and sometimes downright girly, he provides some interesting thoughts on being a guy with natural hair. Enjoy!
Introduce yourself I am Chuka Ejorh from Nigeria. I grew up in Nigeria and worked in South Africa for about 6 years.
How long have you had natural hair? As a guy, I have been natural from day one. I also had dreadlocks for 7 years till the end of 2012 and I have had an afro since then.
How would you describe your texture? Wow complex question! I guess my hair is very full and thick and curly.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month, and the rationale behind your various styling decisions. Haha. I comb my hair sometimes, and sometimes I don't.
Do you leave your hair out or prefer wigs/weaves/braids during the week etc. How often do you wash, condition, go for treatments etc. Haha definitely no weaves or wigs. I wash and condition my hair at least 5 times a week.
Describe your favourite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style. Non-combed hairstyle :)
How do you combat shrinkage? (if you do) I don't
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require extra care and attention? I am pretty content with my hair and its issues. As a guy, I have little expectations from it anyway.
Which of the koili butters have you used and for how long? I used the marula & jojoba butter. Used it for about 3 months while I was in SA.
What do you like most about your butter? I really liked the smell. Smelled like ice cream.
